Charles F. Lummis Home (El Alisal) and Garden
Highland Park, CA
Built between 1898 and 1910 the Lummis Home was built by Charles Fletcher Lummis which he said he built "to last a thousand years." In many respects the Lummis Home represents the beginning of the Arts & Crafts aesthetic that was to soon take the architectural world by storm--only to peak with Greene and Greene homes such as the Gamble House. Tours are free.

Claremont Heritage Walking Tour (self guided)
Claremont, CA

Darwin D. Martin House
Buffalo, NY
The Martin House Complex - Frank Lloyd Wright's 1904 masterwork is currently under restoration. All tours of the Complex are docent-led. Call (716)856-3858 for reservations.

Hollyhock House - 1921
Los Angeles, CA
Hollyhock House is Wright's first Los Angeles project. Built between 1919 and 1921, it represents his earliest efforts to develop a regionally appropriate style of architecture for Southern California. Wright himself referred to it as California Romanza, using a musical term meaning "freedom to make one's own form".

Dr. Roy Lanterman House Tour
La Cañada Flintridge, CA
In 1915, Dr. Roy Lanterman commissioned architect A. L. Haley to design a fireproof bungalow of reinforced concrete for his family and the result was a unique architectural treasure. There are many arts and crafts elements in the Lanterman house. It retains its exquisite original interiors and furnishings, including elaborate hand-painted wall and ceiling ornamentation.

Apostles of Beauty: Arts and Crafts from Britain to Chicago

The exhibition traces the history of the Arts and Crafts movement through its complex stylistic and philosophical influences. Galleries explore the movement's early roots in Britain and the impact of William Morris and his group on the next generation of architect-designers; its intersection with the phenomenon of Japanism in both British and American design; the development of American Arts and Crafts style and its popularization through specialized periodicals; the connections between the movement's philosophies and pictorialism in photography; and Chicago's early acceptance of the British model and its later role in uniting hand and machine in the service of beauty.

Fairmount Historic District Home Tour
Fort Worth, TX
Proceeds from the tour are the primary source of funding for Neighborhood Association endeavors. Recently, the association used profits from past Home Tours to help offset the cost of capital improvement projects such as installing period-style streetlights, replacing signs marking the boundaries of the Historic District, and enhancing area landscaping.
